Nikolaus “Nik” Brown grew up in sunny California. Shortly before high school his family moved to Southern VA where Nik was privileged to attend and graduate from Hargrave Military Academy. Nik’s undergraduate career was split between Virgina Tech (Computer Science) and ETSU (Design Graphics). In 2003 he graduated with a Masters Degree in Multimedia Design from ETSU’s Digital Media Center.

Today, Nik is Media General’s Director of Digital Media for Southwest VA and TN where he heads up technical oversight as well as all new product and feature launches.

Nik joined Media General in early 2003. One of his first projects for Media General was the design and construction of TriCities.com (previously the Bristol Herald Courier and WJHL maintained two separate websites).

Since joining Media General he has been privileged to serve as a traveling Multimedia journalist for many major events such as Hurricane Katrina & The Virgina Tech Tragedy.

Nik is a Web designer and Project/Team Manger with experience in PHP / MySQL / Apache (WAMP/LAMP) environments as well as Coldfusion / IIS environments. He has special experience with online media, particularly in content management systems development. He is focused on web standards design and implementation and experienced in Agile / Scrum project management.

Nik is married to an ETSU Department of Surgery Resident and lives and works in Johnson City, TN. He loves to travel, play tennis, cook and do woodworking, as well as practice and teach martial arts, and horseback riding as time and house renovations permit.
